This is the one major thing Chuck looks forward to photographing each year, and he's longed for a good telephoto lens since he first started. So this year, I surprised him with one! I gave it to him the night before, so he tested it out on the moon:

Not bad, ehh?
So, Saturday he went alone so he could focus on taking pictures of the planes. It was bright and sunny which actually made it a bit difficult, but he did a great job. Here's the whole set if you'd like to look through them.
But here is my favorite shot:

Anyhow, today (Sunday) we ventured out as a family. The weather was supposed to be rainy, but only isolated showers, so we figured it would be no big deal...you know what's coming right? The show was cut way short and we were stuck in the pouring down rain for quite awhile. Although, how often do you get to stand under a fighter jet for shelter?!

{Chuck and the boys are down front...look closely!}

{They LOVED the Lego exhibit and Lego tent where they could play.}

{Charlie really enjoyed the various guns. Not sure if that's a good thing, ha!}

{See what I mean?!}

{Chandler, however, was quite content to run around in an open field.}

{The boys did enjoy watching the planes. See that impending rain in the back?}

{They asked to all wear camo today, so cute!}

{then it started to rain...}

{It's a good thing our cameras are waterproof!! Thank you, Olympus!!}

One quick story. It had started drizzling and the boys kept prodding me to take them to see the Lego tent (again). Chuck said "but the F-18 is coming." I thought, yeah, yeah, but the boys are running out of patience, so off to the tent we went (sans Chuck, who was taking pictures). As we were walking, the F-18 took flight. I kept making the boys stop and turn around so I could watch. The sound and speed of that thing is incredible. There is nothing like witnessing it first hand. So, every time it flew by, doing rolls and just being incredibly fast and loud, I would stop and watch, and the boys were like, "Come ON Mom." Every single time, I think I said "Wow, did you see that? That was totally awesome!!!" They were pretty much rolling their eyes as I took forever to walk because I was so enraptured. It was like I was the little kid and they were the adults. But it was so fun.

{The F-18 as it flew by}

{A picture Chuck got of it the day before.}

{Soon the rain began pouring, and we took shelter under an F-15, giving the crowds a chance to leave...}

{So what do 2 photographers do when they're bored? Take each other's picture of course!}

If you want more info on the airshow, click here. It could be at Randolph or Lackland AFB, so each year you just have to search for "San Antonio Airshow".

That looks like so much fun..especially for 3 little boys. :) And, oh my, what wonderful pictures! You guys are quite talented.
You all always know how to have fun (even when it rains). :) I'm so glad that you were able to go this year with Chandler too! :) It looks like you had a blast! :) I like the pics that you and Chuck take of each other! :) So cute! :)
Looks like you had quite a time! Fantastic collection of pictures.
How did I just now look at this post. I missed it somehow and I outloud had to say whoa! Amazing pictures. How fun that you got Chuck the telephoto the day before. I know he's loving it. Hmmm.... what lens do you want next. :)
Thought the airshow sounded unexciting but I'm thinking my boys would have loved that. Thanks for linking it so maybe we'll have to check it out next year.
