First of all, Thursday morning I took Charlie to the dentist to get 5, count'em FIVE, fillings! My poor baby has terrible teeth, and I feel responsible for not enforcing strong enough dental habits, and most of all, allowing him to eat too much sugar. I had been a little wigged out by the fact that I had to give him a sedative beforehand, and then he'd have laughing gas on top of that. But I've talked to many people who say this is normal and no big deal. So we get there, and they can't get far back enough in his mouth to do the fillings because he keeps gagging. He was such a trooper and kept trying so hard to let them do everything. He even had tears running down his cheeks as he tried to remain submissive! They decided this simply wasn't going to work (not one filling was done), and we'd have to try again in a hospital with him asleep!! Then the dentist informs me that 2 areas (4 teeth) are nearly abscessed, so I should watch him closely and not allow him to eat any sugar, since this could make it abscess and hurt a lot. So I'm waiting to hear when the hospital visit will be. And I just got our last minor surgery paid off... :(
Secondly, this week brought us a new nephew!! Chuck's sister Melanie had her first baby, and he is big and perfect!. We spent a couple of days in Austin bonding with the new little guy. Charlie's excited about having a cousin nearby! Chance said, "Baby!" then got jealous that I was holding him. ;)

Third, this weekend Charlie kept getting carsick. On the way to Austin and back he said he thought he would throw up. We thought it might be because our Escape doesn't ride smoothly if you're in the back seat. But then yesterday he began crying while we were at a park, thinking he was going to throw up again. So I'm going to take him to the doctor today to see if the Strep is back. And hopefully we'll get our minivan back soon (I can't believe I'm saying that! haha!)...it's been in the shop for a month now! Thankfully we still have the loaner.

Fourth, not only is Charlie suffering, so is Chance. He's been teething a lot, about to cut 3 teeth (he just cut one last week also). Sometimes he doesn't sleep well, but overall he's returned to waking between 8-9 AM. He's also been taking 3 hour morning naps, and pretty much skipping the evening nap. He's just growing so much!

[Chance, enjoying his ketchip, as usual!]
And lastly, a couple of funny stories...
~Charlie was singing the Alphabet song the other day like this: "A, B, C, D...dot org." Truly the world is different today than it was when we were kids! I'll get to tell my boys of a time growing up without computers and internet, just as my parents told me of a time without television (and it was so hard to imagine...)
~Charlie often misses people and tells me he wants to go to their house (or that they want to come to ours). But this week he actually started telling other people that he missed them. He told Aunt Melanie, "I've been missing you so much, Aunt Mel!" Mel said it meant a lot because she didn't know if he really cared or noticed her before. Then in nursery at church, one of the ladies watching him told me he went up and gave his friend Caleb a big hug and said "I've been missing you, Caleb!" and Caleb said "I miss you too, Charlie!" Then yesterday Charlie gave me a hug and said, "I missed you one day Mommy, when I was at Nana's house." He's definitely getting more verbal with his emotions.

You had a busy weekend! I am sorry to hear about Charlie's ordeal at the dentist! That must be so tough for him and you! :( I am going to have to ask you when I see you again, what the guidelines are for not getting cavities! *A refresher course for me! :) Well, I'm so glad to read that you all are well overall! Congrats to you all on your new nephew! :)

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry about Charlie's teeth. That is traumatic!!!! It really stinks that you have to do surgery and I know you already know from Sarah how hard it is to stay away from sugar. Since Brooks was diagnosed I've realized how much sugar is in EVERYTHING. It's a little insane.
You poor boys just sound like they are having a rough time and I hope they get to feeling better soon. Congrats on the new nephew. He is precious and how fun to take newborn pics.
I hope the boys start feeling better soon.
Comment from The Thiers &- Blog Archive &- An Excess of Abscess:
[...] No, I haven't had baby3 yet! But the last couple of days have felt like it. My oldest baby has an abscessed tooth. If you remember from back in June, the first time I took Charlie to the dentist we were told his teeth were in bad shape. Considering he'd only had them three years of less, it was hard to believe. His two front teeth were near-abscessing so we cut out nearly all sugar until he had the root canals in July. So here we are, 5 months later, and he's never complained about his teeth hurting until this past Tuesday. At first I thought he just had a popcorn seed stuck in them or something. But his complaints became more frequent, and Wednesday night he woke up crying about them. So we went to the dentist Thursday, who said that he could find absolutely nothing wrong with them. But, he said, waking up in the night is a symptom of an abscess that obviously hasn't come to the surface, so start him on antibiotics now. This was the dentist who performed all the work in July, and who I had decided we would not use again due to the financial nightmare of it all. Anyhow, all day yesterday Charlie cried in pain, and even ran a fever while on full doses of both tylenol and ibuprofen. On into the night it went, and by this morning, the entire left side of his face was swollen! So we went to another dentist today, since the infection is showing itself now, and he showed me which tooth is indeed abscessed. He reassured me that the antibiotics will work soon, so not to worry (easy for you to say). So now we play the waiting game, and I try to keep up with his pain management. Charlie's not only feeling the pain, but also disappointed that he doesn't get to eat the strawberries I had just gotten him, among other sugary things. [...]
