But The Doctor Says I'm All Better Now!

This past week Charlie had a stomach bug of the worst sort. It was terrible for him because he didn't feel sick, yet he was quarantined to the house because he was contagious, and had a very limited diet with no dairy. After the first couple of days, he started telling me, "I not sick anymore!" I explained that I had talked to the doctor and he was sick. Not an easy thing for a two year old to understand, I'm sure.

So after a few days of hearing that over and over, he tells me "I want yogurt." I explain it all over again, "The doctor says you can't have yogurt because you're still sick."

"No, I not sick anymore! The doctor says I all better now!"

Alas, the only resolution that comes to mind, is to call the doctor (nurse), since I had some questions to ask anyhow. He agrees, tells me, "Tell doctor I no want yogurt, I want ice cream!" and waits patiently for me to get through the conversation (that's a first!!). Then he asks "What doctor says?"

"The doctor says you're still sick."

I watch helplessly as his head bows, his chin touches his chest, and a tear rolls down each cheek.

At this point, I'm ready to cry with him. All I want to do is comfort him. If only he understood the consequences; why Mommy has to withhold the beloved ice cream!

Finally, here we are one week later, and he can finally have a full diet again. Hallelujah!

So, today as we're playing outside, he says "I wanna swim in my pool."

"You do?"

"Yes, doctor says I can swim in my pool now."

Wow, I guess the doctor controls everything...
